Welcome to Muse & Fur
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of museandfur.com and the products and services offered by Muse & Fur ("we," "us," "our"). By accessing our site, placing an order, or otherwise using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
1. About our service
Muse & Fur creates custom pet portraits using AI-assisted rendering combined with studio curation and refinement. Customers submit a photo of their pet and select size, frame finish, and background style. We render the portrait in our consistent house style and produce the finished piece as a framed canvas. We also offer bespoke commissions through The Atelier, a separate service described below.
Muse & Fur is operated by Muse & Fur, headquartered in Wilmington, NC. Our store is powered by Shopify. Purchases are made directly with Muse & Fur, not with Shopify.
2. Eligibility and accounts
By using our services, you confirm that you are at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction. If you create an account, you are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for the security of your account credentials. You may not transfer or sell your account to another person.
3. The standard collection
Our core collection consists of custom pet portraits made to order. When you place an order:
You select your size, frame finish, and background style. You upload a photo of your pet. We render the portrait using our house style and produce the framed canvas. The portrait ships to the address you provide.
Once you submit your order and approve your customization choices, production begins. Orders cannot be modified or canceled after the AI rendering has started unless we have not yet begun production at the time you contact us.
4. The Atelier (bespoke commissions)
The Atelier is our service for bespoke commissions: portraits with scenes, costumes, or personal references that fall outside the standard collection. The Atelier process involves:
An initial inquiry where you describe your concept. A concept rendering and quote provided by our studio. One or two rounds of refinement based on your feedback. Final approval, after which the piece is produced and shipped.
Bespoke commissions are priced individually based on complexity, number of pets, and size. Pricing is confirmed at the concept stage before production. Once you approve the final concept for printing, bespoke commissions enter production and become non-refundable except in cases of production defect, damage in transit, or significant deviation from the approved concept.
5. Customer responsibilities
By using our services, you agree to:
Upload only images that you own or have the legal right to provide. Provide accurate contact, billing, and shipping information. Use our services for lawful purposes only. Avoid uploading content that is unlawful, offensive, explicit, or that infringes on the rights of others.
We reserve the right to refuse, cancel, or refund orders that do not comply with these guidelines.
6. How AI-assisted rendering works
All Muse & Fur portraits are created using a process that includes generative artificial intelligence. Specifically:
Your uploaded photo is processed by third-party AI rendering tools, which compose your portrait based on our prompt structure and house style. Our studio reviews and refines the resulting rendering before it is sent for printing. Each portrait is produced from this studio-reviewed rendering, printed on canvas, and framed in real wood.
We do not represent our portraits as hand-illustrated. The studio review is a creative quality check, not a hand-drawing process. By placing an order, you acknowledge that your portrait is created using AI-assisted rendering and accept the inherent variability of this process. While we strive to capture the character and likeness of your pet, we cannot guarantee exact replication of facial features, expressions, or stylistic outcomes.
7. Photo handling and data
When you upload a photo of your pet, we use it solely to create your portrait and to provide customer service such as reorders, reprints, or order support. Your photo is retained as part of your order record.
We do not share your photo with third parties beyond what is necessary to fulfill your order. We do not use your photo for advertising. We use third-party AI rendering tools selected for their data handling standards. The providers we use do not train AI models on customer-uploaded files, and process them solely for the rendering of your portrait.
If you wish to have your photo deleted from your order record, you may contact us at hello@museandfur.com and we will process your request within a reasonable timeframe, subject to any legal or operational retention requirements.

8. Intellectual property
Your uploaded photo. You retain ownership of any photograph you upload. By uploading, you grant Muse & Fur a limited, non-exclusive license to process and use your photograph solely for the purpose of creating your portrait and fulfilling your order.
Your finished portrait. Upon delivery, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to display and enjoy your portrait for personal, non-commercial use. Muse & Fur retains ownership of the artistic style, the underlying creative composition, and any associated design elements.
Marketing use. Muse & Fur may use anonymized or representative examples of completed portraits for marketing, promotional, or portfolio purposes. If you do not want your portrait included in marketing materials, please notify us at hello@museandfur.com and we will exclude it.
Commercial use. Muse & Fur artwork is intended for personal use only. Any commercial use, including resale, mass reproduction, or use in derivative products, requires prior written consent.
Our brand. Muse & Fur's name, logo, design system, and visual assets are the intellectual property of Muse & Fur. You may not reproduce, distribute, or modify them without written consent.
9. Content shared about Muse & Fur on social media
If you share content on social media that depicts or references Muse & Fur products, services, or branding — including but not limited to photographs of your portrait in your home, video featuring the product, posts that tag @museandfur or our official accounts, or posts using hashtags associated with Muse & Fur (such as #museandfur or other hashtags we may designate from time to time) — you grant Muse & Fur a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to repost, republish, and use that content for marketing, promotional, and portfolio purposes, with attribution to your social media handle.
This license is contingent on:
You being the owner or authorized user of the content. The content not infringing on the rights of any third party. The content being publicly shared (we will not use content from private accounts without separate permission).
If you do not wish for content you share to be used by Muse & Fur, please contact us at hello@museandfur.com and we will remove any content we have reposted and refrain from using your future content.
We will always credit you in any repost. We do not pay royalties for user-generated content reposted under this section. For content used in paid advertising campaigns or commercial materials beyond standard social media reposting, we will reach out for explicit written permission and discuss compensation if applicable.
10. Orders, pricing, and payment
When you place an order, you are making an offer to purchase. Your order is not accepted until we confirm it. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order at our discretion, including for suspected fraud, pricing errors, or failure to meet our guidelines.
Prices are listed in U.S. dollars and may change without notice. The price you pay is the price displayed at the time you complete checkout. Posted prices do not include taxes, shipping, or applicable customs charges unless specified.
By providing payment information, you confirm that you are authorized to use the payment method and that the information is accurate.
11. Shipping and delivery
Shipping terms, transit times, and tracking are described in our Shipping Policy. All delivery times are estimates and are not guaranteed. We are not responsible for delays caused by carriers, weather, customs, or events outside our control.
Title and risk of loss pass to you when we transfer the product to the shipping carrier.
12. Returns and refunds
Our return and refund terms are described in our Refund Policy. As custom-made products, our portraits are not eligible for return based on change of mind. Defects, damage, and production errors are fully covered as described in the Refund Policy.
13. Errors, omissions, and changes
Our site may occasionally contain typographical errors, inaccuracies, or omissions related to product descriptions, pricing, shipping, or availability. We reserve the right to correct these errors and to cancel or modify orders affected by them, including after an order has been submitted.
We reserve the right to modify or discontinue any product, service, or feature at any time without notice.
14. Disclaimers
We provide our services on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Except as expressly stated in these Terms, we make no warranties or representations of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that our services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that the appearance of products on screen will match the physical product exactly due to differences in monitor calibration, lighting, and rendering.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the disclaimer of implied warranties, in which case some of the above disclaimers may not apply.
15. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Muse & Fur, its partners, employees, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages of any kind arising from your use of our services or any product purchased from us. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of our services shall not exceed the amount you paid us for the product or service giving rise to the claim.
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Muse & Fur and its affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from your breach of these Terms, your violation of any law, your infringement of any third party's rights, or your use of our services in violation of these Terms.
17. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to our services at any time, with or without notice, for any reason including suspected violation of these Terms. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will do so, including the sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and governing law.
18. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state in which Muse & Fur is headquartered, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in that jurisdiction, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
19. Privacy
Your use of our services is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated through the site or other reasonable means. Your continued use of our services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
